MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (Fiber Optics)

Overview

 

As a Manufacturing Engineer within the Aerospace , Defense and Marine Business unit you will support the new product implementation of new Fiber Optic Products from concept definition to serial production.  This NPI role involves working closely with the design team to ensure all products are Designed for Manufacture and can be integrated into the Hastings assembly facility. You will also be responsible for the creation of documentation such as work instructions, PFMEA’s, Control Plans and routings, and supporting ‘hands on’ trials for new products.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Design Engineers from concept to final design to ensure new products are fit for production
  • Develop new processes, including the sepecification and purchase of CAPEX equipment to allow assembly of new products and provide benefit to exisiting product lines. 
  • To work with the wider NPI team to develop processes used to implement new to market products that are right first time and use best practice.  
  • Create documentation including: PFMEAs, Control Plans, Build Specifications, Local Work Instructions and routings
  • Define tooling requirements and work with in-house tool designers to deliver tooling in-line with NPI timelines. 
  • To drive the appropriate level of mental effort in the early stages of projects to complete the APQP/PPAP process as required including but not limited to FMEA’s, process flows and design for manufacture.
  • Keep well-informed of technical developments and review manufacturing methods.
  • Identify and recommend new or improved manufacturing processes and technical developments. 
  • Observe and comply with Health and Safety regulations as laid down in company procedures and Government legislation.
     

What your background should look like:

  • HNC or Degree in Mechanical or production Engineering
  • Practical knowledge of assembly, with a focus on Fibre Optics.
  • Experience in ensuring quality with flow diagrams, PFMEA’s, control plans and quality inspection plans.
  • Knowledge of industry tools for troubleshooting such as 5 why’s, fishbone diagrams and 8D reports.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and deliver results in fast paced environment.
  • Experience with SAP and Minitab.(would be an advantage )
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or equivalent. (would be an advantage)
