Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Purchasing Teams are responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment and services, gather quotations, examine bids, and award contracts. They perform cost analysis and volume planning for commodities, evaluate vendor reliability and develop new supply sources where required. They coordinate purchasing activities with the manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels and monitor cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. They also look for and recommend cost saving proposals including make vs. buy analysis, alternative sourcing, and vendor evaluation criteria as well as develop specifications for new contract orders.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key responsabilities:

  • Conduct spend analysis and develop commodity strategies to identify savings opportunities to be included in the AOP (Annual Objective Plan).
  • Develop strategies and lead cross functional sourcing teams to improve overall supply chain and reduce cost of expenditures in accordance to AOP.
  • Support corporate initiatives at the BU region level with Engineering, Product Management, Quality and Manufacturing, to develop and implement plans to reduce purchasing expenditures, develop new products and increase sales.
  • Facilitate the exploration & development of new sources of supply, investigation of new products, services and equipment that have the potential for delivering cost reduction, performance improvement, quality improvement, reduced delivery lead-time, or inventory reduction opportunities.
  • Facilitate supplier evaluation & certification as needed and in accordance to TE policies and to ensure business requirements are met.
  • As a duly authorized agent of TE, handle all aspects of negotiations with suppliers including, prices, volumes, delivery, quality and service levels.
  • Develop mechanisms and controls to manage pricing with supplier.
  • Lead initiatives with suppliers related to process improvement in manufacturing
  • Ensure necessary market and industry knowledge for commodities manages to a point that can be referred to as a functional expert in the area.
  • Ensure that all purchasing controlled data, such as supplier, pricing, lead times, MOQ among others, are up-to-date in TE systems, so the daily tactical processing of requisitions occurs in a timely manner.
  • Negotiates and writes Purchasing contracts with suppliers, starting with existing TE approved contract templates and ensures that they are approved by TE Law dept. prior to any signatures occurs on behalf of TE.
  • Support the Planning regarding the expediting or urgent and/or past due orders as needed and required.
  • Monthly tracking and reporting of cost savings and cost avoidances.
  • Support Planning to resolved Credit Holds with suppliers to resolve blocked invoices that Planning is unable to resolve
  • Support Quality in quality initiatives with suppliers including but not limited to the follow-up of open TECHS with suppliers

 

Profile:

  • BS Engineering degree from an accredited college or university
  • Fluent English. French will be highly appreciated but not a muss
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Purchasing in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong skill in negotiating and developing and maintaining good supplier relationships that will serve TE’s needs
  • Professional certification through the purchasing association is preferred – (Institute for Supply Management –ISM) in one of the following certifications: CPIM, C.P.M.
  • Strong knowledge of MS-Office tools, primarily Excel, but also Word, PowerPoint and Project
  • Ability to read and interpret product drawings and specifications
  • Strong problem-solving skills to quickly find solutions for new, never encountered, problematic situations
  • Excellent communication skills with internal customers and external suppliers
  • Possess sufficient understanding of purchasing and contract law
  • Effectively lead meetings with both internal customers and external suppliers
