Global Product Director, Energy

As a Director of Global Portfolio Director – Insulation & Protection (I&P), you will lead a team of entrepreneurs who are passionate about understanding our markets, customers, competitors and the products we need to implement to win. The I&P product portfolio contents of Insulators, Surge Arrestors and Wild Life & Asset protection covering LV, MV and HV applications. The customer base in mainly utilities, EPC contractors and large OEM manufacturers and TE Connectivity is one of the leading global companies in this area.

 

The Energy business unit of TE Connectivity has an opportunity for a Global Portfolio Director to lead the product management team. They will be responsible for building, leading, and managing a complex global product portfolio including developing the strategy and business plan based on customer and market trends, driving new product development, develop KAM strategy for selected key customers, gaining cross functional alignment and driving the execution of the business plan. This individual will also be responsible for managing a team of product managers located around the globe.

 

As a Director, Global Portfolio, a typical day may include:

 

  • Develops a globally aligned portfolio strategy for the scope of the responsible portfolio and creates roadmaps for the GPL derived from the portfolio strategy and an execution plan. Considers input from the regions, the global product managers (PM) and strategy in a balanced way
  • Align with head of RPM (regional PM) on regional support topics, ensure best in class support to sales and customers in close cooperation with the regional teams

What you will be doing...

Market Sensing & Strategy Development:

  • Articulate market trends, demand drivers, customer needs, industry trends, and competitive landscape Conduct market segmentation exercises to develop market segment-specific strategies.
  • Establishes processes for analysis of the competitor’s products, tracking of market trends resulting in fighting guides how to position our competitive advantages
  • Conduct competitive analysis and benchmarking
  • Define segment – specific value propositions that beat the competition
  • Develop product roadmaps that aligns with business strategy and customer/market/industry
  • Design go to market strategy, inclusive of channel strategy and partnerships
  • Work with R&D and operations in the development of new products to meet current and future customer requirements
  • Manage the product lifecycle Develop Business Plan:
  • Define resource requirements necessary to execute the product roadmap
  • Work cross functionally to define sales, technology and operations strategies and goals, in line with financial goals. Build consensus on specific tasks
  • Establish pricing policy
  • Develop the annual operating plan (Sales and gross or standard margin)
  • Engage with customers to better understand their needs and ensure our product plans are aligned to their strategic priorities
  • Owns Portfolio Management Process, ensure systematic prioritization (globally) of all project proposals based on new business oriented scoring criteria.

 

Execution – New Product Development & Launch:

  • Be the opportunity champion for PAC projects
  • Plans product launches, including the development of marketing and sales plans
  • Provide demand forecast inputs to S&OP
  • Attend customer meetings in support of winning new business
  • Exercise thought leadership
  • Provide inputs to Marcom for the development of collateral, including e-commerce
  • Develop well justified business cases for new products with critical outcomes, such as returns, clearly defined Execution – Post Launch Product Management:
  • Manage the P&L (sales and gross or standard margin) for the global portfolio
  • Deliver sustained profitable growth
  • Enable sales to promote product line via training and the development of collateral materials that help articulate the value proposition
  • Manage special price requests, product mix and price erosion
  • Drives creation of business plans for the products, new product developments and product improvements (sustaining, TEBIT)
  • Track progress to the business plan and facilitate resolution to gaps

 

Be the champion for resolution of product issues (e.g., quality, delivery)

Talent Management:

  • Manage, energize and motivate a multi-cultural team of product managers located around the globe Build, coach and develop individuals and teams

What your background should look like...

  • 12+ years of product management or sales experience Relevant product or industry (Energy domain) experience desired

  • 4-year degree in electrical engineering

  • Advanced degree (MBA) and relevant P&L management experience preferred Ability to support frequent travel up to 50% (both regional and global)
