Job Overview

The Shore End and Terrestrial Installation Engineer is responsible for the planning, engineering and installation of the shore end and terrestrial cable in support of TE SubCom's undersea cable systems. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Shore End and Terrestrial Installation, this position is an integral part of SubCom's Marine Construction Department and is a high visibility role key to the successful implementation of cable systems.

The Shore End and Terrestrial Engineer is responsible for managing various Shore End cable landing sites from planning to execution and co-ordinates all site-specific activities. Such activities include, but are not limited to, cable landing, burial, near shore vessel loading, near shore route clearance and post lay inspections, installation of terrestrial fibre, power and fibre optic cable splicing, ocean ground bed installation, preliminary testing and sub-contractor management.

 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Construction management, maritime and or undersea cable experience highly preferred.
  • Coordination/Planning/Logistics experience preferred.
  • An ability to work under own initiative, in foreign environments, whilst managing multiple teams towards a common goal.
  • Experience of project lifecycle management is highly preferred, as is a proven understanding of project management principles.
  • Demonstrable experience in budget management and contract management.
  • Ability to work under pressured deadlines while remaining positive and flexible, and working across time zones.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and strong oral and written communications skills, including presenting to customers in a formal setting as required.
  • A high level of PC proficiency is required. The candidate must be able to effectively use the Microsoft Office software line, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
  • AutoCAD drafting experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to pass Fit for Duty medical exam.
  • Ability to travel both domestic and international, including extended assignments at Shore End Landing sites or on board shore end cable laying vessels. While travel will be based on business needs, candidate should be prepared for 30-50% travel.
