Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Purchasing Teams are responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment and services, gather quotations, examine bids, and award contracts. They perform cost analysis and volume planning for commodities, evaluate vendor reliability and develop new supply sources where required. They coordinate purchasing activities with the manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels and monitor cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. They also look for and recommend cost saving proposals including make vs. buy analysis, alternative sourcing, and vendor evaluation criteria as well as develop specifications for new contract orders.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate the procurement and distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies for the organization by performing the following duties.

  • Coordinate all activities released to procurement of a commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Analyzed the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date commodity is needed.
  • Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested commodity.
  • Makes certain that purchasing documents are completed properly and the terms of conditions of purchase are appropriate.
  • Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.
  • Works closely with managers scheduling production to maintain appropriate level of inventory.
  • Advises team members or management on the appropriate supplier to be used.
  • Negotiates the lowest possible cost for the commodity balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs.
  • Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company.
  • Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
  • Coordinate appropriate methods needed to distribute commodity in a cost-effective manner.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two year related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Knowledge of Accounting software; Statistical analysis and problem solving techniques; Expertise with MS Office applications; ERP/MRP experience.
