Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Critical Experience

  • Demonstrated ability in having executed complex structural analyses using commercial FEA tools.
  • Ability and willingness to work on custom FEA problems which are complex in nature, which could involve new methods development, material modelling, scripting and tools linking, e.g., FEA tool live links with MATLAB, Excel, design of experiments, optimization etc.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Interact with various product development teams and understand the requirements for FEA
  • Work with the design, validation and advanced operations teams to create FE modeling plan and model preparation
  • Perform the static, transient, linear and non-linear analyses using the commercial tools, e.g., ANSYS, Hyperworks or similar, model preparation, meshing, post processing and the interpretation of the results.
  • Verify the results for convergence and accuracy
  • Provide customized FEA solutions based on the requirements from the design departments and physical testing laboratory
  • Validate the analysis results against closely equivalent international standards, experimental results or analytical solution as available
  • Develop methods, tools, and procedures to shorten the FEA solution time for complex mechanical problems
  • Create analysis reports, reference manual and lessons learnt document
  • Participate in simulation workshops, forums, training & conferences both internal & external
  • Interact with the multi-disciplinary teams across the world, leading technical discussions with multi-geographical project teams
  • Execute FEA runs in a quick turnaround in sync with the Product Development milestone requirements.
  • Provide expert guidance mentorship and directions to designers in different teams
  • Open to learning new skills, tools/software in the simulation domain

Qualification & SKills

  • B.E/B.Tech/Masters/Ph.D in Mechanical or related Engineering from the institutes or Universities of repute.
  • 5-9 years of research/industrial simulation experience in medical, automobile, aerospace or any product company.
  • Expert knowledge of FEA and CFD simulation and tools.
  • Knowledge of 3D software ProE/ Creo.
  • Ability to come up with new solutions based on analysis and modify designs for evaluation.
  • High level of demonstrated interpersonal skills, combined with excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Creative, analytical thinker with a capacity for detail
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks while keeping up with aggressive timelines
  • Experience of coordinating and leading Design Reviews and the compilation of associated documentation.
  • Ability to lead team to carry out actions in accordance with the project plan and deliver projects through key milestone phases and associated activities.  
  • Experience with engineering tools such as DOE, SPC, and using Minitab
