Job Overview

The Industrial and Commercial Transportation Business provides rugged interconnect solutions specifically designed for Truck, Bus, Agriculture, Construction and Recreational Vehicles.
Our R&D/Product Development Engineers are highly engaged team players that conceive, and support introduction of innovative solutions designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions for on- and off- highway vehicles including recreational vehicles. A Development Engineer is a foundational member of the product launch team challenged to deliver manufacturing ready designs through to production. Development engineers work closely with OEMs, Tier One customers, and cross-functional engineering team members, to determine specifications, perform engineering analysis, conceptualize, and refine designs. They direct and support activities such as detailed design, fabrication of prototypes, testing and manufacturing ramp. 
The Development engineer will be part of a Product Development team that designs terminals and connectors for low voltage applications. This position is in Winston-Salem, NC.
 

What your background should look like:


•    Actively lead and contribute to New Product Development activities
•    Conceptualize designs based on customer requirements using CAD tools like Creo
•    Collaborate with a cross functional global team to refine concepts based on input from various stakeholders such as customers, product management, sales, mold engineers, assembly engineers, quality etc.
•    Perform engineering analysis such as tolerance studies and finite element analysis (FEA) to optimize design
•    Explore various prototyping options such as additive manufacturing, soft tools etc. to prove out design features early in the development process
•    Lead sessions to document design risks using tools like DFMEA
•    Present the proposed design to both internal and external customers as part of the design review process
•    Create 3D annotated models, 2D drawings and engineering bill of materials (EBOM’s)
•    Provide input to the manufacturing team to ensure manufactured parts meet design intent by reviewing Inspection Reports
•    Create test plans to test product to expected requirements using tools like DVPR and PVPR
•    Coordinate testing of parts at the test labs
•    Create required documents such as Application Specification, Product Specification, Instruction Sheet etc.

 

Desired Qualifications Include:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, BSME or equivalent with concentrations, required
•    Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional level experience in product design, preferred
•    Connector design and manufacturing experience preferred
•    Strong 3D CAD experience/ability to turn customer VOC into concepts, Creo experience, preferred
•    Prior experience in designing precision molded parts, preferred
•    Exposure to Finite Element Analysis tools like Ansys, Creo Simulate or equivalent
•    Exposure to Geometric Dimensional and Tolerancing techniques, ASME or ISO GPS
•    Knowledge of risk mitigation tools like Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
•    Knowledge of materials; polymers, metals, elastomers
•    Knowledge of manufacturing processes; stamping, machining, assembly, additive manufacturing
•    Self-driven to represent TE Connectivity with solutions to complex problems which require a high degree of ingenuity and innovation
•    Strong Voice of Customer (VOC) skills
•    Excellent communication & presentation skills (oral & written)
•    Detail oriented with the ability to support multiple projects

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $84,000 – $105,000 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
