Job Overview
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide polymer chemistry and formulation expertise and apply this to a range of polymer compounding and downstream processes, e.g. extrusion, expansion, moulding, and crosslinking.
· Drive product development projects, organising experiments (DOE), trials, testing, data collection and analysis.
· Support new product roadmap implementation.
· Support the completion of all LEAP project documentation.
· Apply a strong understanding of materials analytical techniques to development projects.
· Develop new materials opportunities through liaison with key suppliers and procurement.
· Be able to familiarise oneself with literature research in a specific field of interest and with the appropriate class of materials build product concepts.
· Be able to identify new materials development concepts and translate these into proprietary opportunities / patent applications.
· Interpretation of specifications and utilisation of VOC.
· Work across BU’s to leverage expertise, engage with Product Managers and Operations to ensure project goals are met.
· Deliver technical reviews and updates to all stakeholders on progress and future activities
· Work with internal and external factory-led engineering to bring successful technology to large-scale manufacturing for new materials/compounds
What your background should look like:
·Polymer chemistry/polymer physics experience.
· Formulation expertise in a polymer field, preferably within heat shrink tubing, moulded parts and wire and cable.
· A strong knowledge of polymer materials processing.
· A strong knowledge of polymer analytical techniques.
· Practical hands-on skills in both compounding and extrusion of polymeric materials.
· Practical experience in new product development and innovation.
· Minimum Six Sigma Green Belt qualification
· A proven track record of using a variety of problem-solving techniques using repeatable methodology.
· Strong analytical techniques with the ability to make data driven decisions using Six Sigma methodology.
· Experience of and hands on working knowledge of the DMAIC and / or PDCA methodologies.
· Practical experience of literature searches in technology areas.
· Extensive computer literacy and knowledge of experimental design.
· Experienced in technical report writing as well as writing and developing work instructions and standard operating procedures.
· Knowledge and experience in creating and maintaining documentation through the life of a project, such as business case, project scoping, SIPOC, VOC, stakeholder analysis, gap & risk analysis, CTQs, etc, through to creating DFMEAs, PFMEAs, manufacturing specifications, control plans BOMs, routes, Risk Assessments SOPs and VSMs etc.
· Ability to train out new processes and techniques to both peers and colleagues.
· Excellent collaboration skills and be able to work cross-functionally and across business units
· Strong communication skills at all levels.
· Focus on time to market and product cost.
· Strong organisational skills
